COLIN TEEVAN was born in Dublin. His stage plays include; The Big Sea (1990, Galloglass Theatre Company, Tipperary); Here Come Cowboys (1992, Team Theatre Company, Dublin) Vinegar and Brown Paper (1995, Abbey Theatre Company, Dublin); Iph… a translation and adaptation of Euripides’ Iphigenia in Aulis(1999, Lyric Theatre, Belfast,); Svejk adapted from the novel by Jaroslav Hasek,(Gate Theatre, London, 1999, revived by TFANA New York in November 2004); The Walls, (2001 NT Cottesloe Stage); Monkey! adapted from the ancient Chinese legends of the Magic Monkey King, (2000, The Young Vic), The University, (National Theatre Studio 2002) and Cock of the North (Live Theatre 2004, published as Alcmaeon in Corinth); Missing Persons, a one man show of Greek based monologues performed by long time collaborator Greg Hicks (2005, Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, 2006 Trafalgar Studios, West End.) The Bee, co-written with Hideki Noda, (Soho Theatre, 2006). How Many Miles to Basra? (West Yorkshire Playhouse 2006) his adaptations of Don Quixote (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and Peer Gynt (National Theatre of Scotland and DundeeRep) were premiered in 2007.

Colin has translated works from Ancient Greek, Italian and French including Marathon (1999) from Edoardo Erba’s play and Cuckoos (2000) from Giuseppe Manfridi’s play, directed by Peter Hall, both at the Gate Theatre and Barbican Theatre, London. Colin translated Euripides’ Bacchai (2002, NT Olivier Stage and Ancient Theatre, Epidaurus, Greece) directed by Peter Hall and scored by Harrison Birtwistle.

His plays for radio include Iph. . .(BBC Radio3 2000) and Tricycles (BBC Radio 3, The Wire, 2001) How Many Miles to Basra?(BBC Radio 3 2004) Glass Houses (Radio 4 2006) The Devil Was Here Yesterday (BBC Radio 3 2008)Myrrha (BBC Radio 4 2008) The verse monologues The RoyKeaneiad Parts 1 and 2, Medea: The Last Word, The Whale, Arse and The Revanant all premiered on BBC Radio 3s The Verb for which Colin has been a regular contributor since 2002.

Colin was the Production Dramaturg and Associate Director on Peter Hall’s Tantalus (RSC and DCPA co production, Denver Center for Performing Arts, UK Tour and Barbican ). He has written on a range of theatre issues for international journals and anthologies. In 1997, he was appointed Writer-In-Residence at Queen’s University Belfast, where he subsequently founded the Drama degree. In 2002 he was appointed ScreenEast Writing Fellow at University of East Anglia, and in 2003 Literary Fellow to the Universities of Durham and Newcastle in England. He is currently Lecturer in Dramatic Writing at the University of Newcastle. All his work is published by Oberon Books.

Colin is currently working on a translation and adaptation of Lysistrata by Aristophanes for production by TFANA in New York, on a new collaboration with Japanese actor director Hideki Noda for Soho Theatre London and Setagaya Theatre Tokyo and an original play for West Yorkshire Playhouse..
